Residential Buildings with Solar Panels

Our Story

Climetric was founded end of 2018 in Cape Town, South Africa, by Dolf and Etienne with the aim of supporting South African businesses and home owners in their drive towards energy self-sufficiency, sustainability and comfort in a cost efficient way. Dolf and Etienne recognised how parametric modelling could lead to buildings with far superior performance in terms of comfort, sustainability and costs. In the early years, Climetric developed its algorithms to service a wide range of buildings, from offices, Universities, to hotels, eco-resorts and homes. In 2020, Dolf returned to the Netherlands and started servicing the European market. The exposure to different markets has helped expand the toolkit of sustainability measures, ultimately providing Climetric and their clients with more ways to optimise the sustainability designs. As a result, Climetric is now geared to service a wide range of buildings, both new build and renovation, with a wide toolkit of sustainability measures and an intelligent algorithm that enables us to find the best design amongst thousands of alternative designs.

Our Ambition

It is our ambition to find the optimal path of making your building sustainable and comfortable. That optimal path may look very different for each building, depending on the characteristics of the building, its surroundings and personal preferences. The key to finding the optimal path is making informed decisions, based on key insights on what the impact of a decision is on the performance of your building. Our algorithms are geared towards providing you with the right insights so that you can make those decisions. And our team of experts are eager and passionate to support!

Dolf
Bakker

Dolf finished his Master's Degree in Physics of the Built Environment at Eindhoven University of Technology in 2012. He started working for Imtech Building Services, a mechanical contracting company, where he specialized in the performance of complex dynamic systems. In 2015, Dolf moved to South Africa to work for PJCarew Consulting. As a Green Building Consultant, Dolf ran his own Passive and Low Energy design team which implemented sustainable and efficient systems in various projects both in South Africa and the Netherlands.

Late 2018, Dolf left PJC to start Climetric BV. After 1.5 years, Dolf moved back to the Netherlands in the beginning of 2020. While working on local projects, he supports the South African projects remotely.

Etienne
Terblanche

Etienne completed his Industrial Engineering degree at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, in 2005. He started working at PJCarew Consulting, a Cape Town based consulting firm focussing on passive and low-energy design. Etienne developed analysis tools and calculators to aid the decision making for water, climatic, energy and daylight strategies. He also worked on and managed several Green Star Certifications and energy modelling submissions.

In 2015, Etienne started Susti, a company specialising in South African SANS XA Rational Design modelling. Susti merged with Climetric in 2018. Etienne is based in Cape Town, South Africa. From this location, he works on local projects while providing support for European projects.

van Loon

Stefan finished his Master's Degree in Organization & Strategy at Tilburg University in 2012. He started working at Bain & Company, a top-tier strategy consulting firm. In 2020, Stefan joined BME, a B2B distributor of building products where he was responsible for the development of the Sustainability Strategy. A key component of that strategy was to create transparency on how sustainable different building products are, to facilitate contractors in building in more sustainable ways.

In 2022, Stefan joined Climetric, focusing on business development and developing the Climetric tool to make buildings more sustainable at scale.
